Henry Francis Bolin, Jr.
Virginia Beach - Henry Francis Bolin, Jr. died on March 9, 2008. Hank was born in 1933 in Geneva, New York. He was the son of the late Louise and Henry Francis Bolin, Sr. and a man of great faith and character.
He earned his BA degree in Economics and Music from Hobart College where he lettered in football and lacrosse and was selected All American Lacrosse for two years by NCAA. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Following college, he married Alice Ann Sunkenberg. He then became a member of the United States Marine Corps and served as a platoon leader and ended his military career as an accomplished Marine Aviator based in Cherry Point, North Carolina. He returned to Geneva, New York as a co-proprietor of the Bolin Music House, where he was elected as councilman for the city. He then attended the FBI academy and served as a special agent in the Norfolk office of the FBI for 22 years. He made many contributions to the community during these years and held his fellow agents in highest regard.
He is survived by his sister, Jean Karl; and his children, Mary Jean Bolin, Henry Francis Bolin, III and Leanne, Thom Alexander Bolin and Elizabeth, and Amy Alicia Barton and Patrick. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Joshua Stuart Bolin, John Austin Bolin, Lucy Alexandra Bolin, Ethan Henry Bolin, Megan Rose Bolin, Luke Thomas Bolin, and Bane Alden Barton.
Hank had a zest for life, a big smile, and a love for his family beyond measure. During his lifetime he acquired interests in flying, racquetball, sailing, fishing, and always loved playing the piano and organ for family and friends. He was a volunteer in the Kempsville area youth sports and the PTA. More recently, he served as a volunteer at the VA hospital in Hampton and was an active member in the local FBI retiree organization as well as his church choir at St. Mary Star of the Sea in Hampton.
He will be missed by family and friends alike particularly by his favored niece, Maureen Heald; John Kraus, his lifetime friend and brother-in-law; and Alice Ann Russell.
