M. Susan Knapp Root
Born in Glen Dale, WV on Apr. 8, 1951
Departed on Nov. 27, 2005 and resided in Nantucket, MA.

Root, M. Susan Knapp, 54, of Nantucket, MA, formerly of Moundsville, died Sunday, November 27, 2005 after a courageous 4 year battle with liver cancer.

She was born April 8th, 1951 in Glen Dale, WV, the daughter of the late Guy William Knapp, who passed away in 1995, and Dorothy S. Knapp, who died in 1999, of Virginia Street in Moundsville. She was also preceded in death by an uncle, Lawrence Carpenter and a cousin, David Carpenter of Norwalk, Ohio.

Susan, along with her husband Tracy, was the owner of Ciopinno's Restaurant and Bar on Nantucket Island, MA. They had 21 wonderful years together. Susan graduated from John Marshall High School in 1969 and attended Marshall University. She was in the restaurant business for most of her adult life. Besides the one in Nantucket, she also owned restaurants in Naples, Florida where she and her husband lived during the winter months.

Visiting Europe and other foreign countries during her lifetime, Susan and her husband enjoyed life to the fullest and met many interesting people along the way.

While others sip at life, “Susie” gulped it, cup after cup, day after day. She had a gift of making every moment an event. Like her mother, she never met a stranger, and she never wasted the small opportunity that was given to her to be on this earth.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her older brother Brad Knapp and his wife, Dianne, of Lebanon, Ohio; her younger brother, Jay, of Moundsville; her aunts, Patsy (John)Grubb of Mt. Lebanon, Pa and Myra Carpenter of Norwalk, Ohio, along with their adult children.

Services and cremation will be held on Nantucket at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Guy W. Knapp Youth Scholarship Fund, c/o Simpson Methodist Church, 802 7th St., Moundsville, WV, 26041, the JimmyV Cancer Fund at www.jimmyv.org, or the charity of one's choice.
