Obituary for: Sylvia Bird Age: 95
Sylvia Bird, 95 formerly of Chester Ave., Wellsville went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Calcutta Health Care Center following a brief illness. She was born in Wellsville on April 5, 1917 and was a daughter of the late Joseph "Guiseppe" and Antonina (Imburgia) Sanfilippo.
Living her entire life in this area, she was a Home Caregiver and a 1937 graduate of Wellsville High School. She and her sister, Mary Cathell was instrumental in establishing the Maranatha Chapel in Glenmoor. For many years Mrs. Bird was the Treasurer of the church and was a very active member.
She is preceded in death by her first husband: Floyd Cathell and her second husband, Vernon Bird.
Surviving her are four daughters: Terry and Ronald Gibson of Wellsville, OH, Carolyn and Paul LaScola of Medina, OH, Barbara and Bob Taggart of Wellsville, OH and Janet and Greg Kritz of Davie, FL; one brother: Charles Sanfilippo of Wellsville, OH; eight grandchildren: Stephanie (Pat) O'Hara of East Liverpool, OH, Krista Taggart of Wellsville, OH, Tina (Cal) Davis of Medina, OH, Gregg (Tonya) Gibson of Summitville, OH, Ryan (Bobbie) Gibson of Toronto, OH, Jamie Taggart of Wellsville, OH, Adam LaScola of Birmingham, AL and Cecily Kritz of Davie, FL as well as twelve great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husbands, Mrs. Bird is preceded in death by one brother: Joseph Sanfilippo and four sisters: Carmella Ray, Josephine "Theresa" Gurrera , Mary Cathell and Helen Hull.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dave Paulovich of the church officiating.
Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Wellsville.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Monday, from 11:00 to 1:00PM
