Richard A. Purdie, 62 passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, Fort Pierce, FL.
He was born in Norfolk, VA and was a resident of Suffolk, VA.
Richard was a United States Army veteran, serving in Vietnam. Prior to retirement, he worked for DFI and Jim Building Construction Company in Virginia Beach. He was a former baseball coach for Little Creek National for 25 years and served as VP of League in Norfolk, VA.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Purdie.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Purdie, of Suffolk, VA; son, Brian Purdie, of Grant, FL; mother, Dorothy Purdie of Conroe, TX; sisters, Judy Conner (Dickie), Susan Noell and Sharon Nichols, all of Virginia Beach, VA, Karen Caffey (Doug) of Conroe, TX and Valerie Moyer (Jim) of Virginia Beach, VA; one grandson, Tyler Purdie of Virginia Beach, VA and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 7 pm, Friday, October 30, 2009 at Riverside-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 7415 River Road, Newport News, VA.
