ZALESKI, Sr. Andrew A., 98 of Wheeling, who will be sadly missed by his family and friends, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Bishop Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling. He was born on April 3, 1911, a son of the late John and Anna (Galuska) Zaleski.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Clara G. (Dombroski), two sisters, Mary Hummell and Helen Kozel; two brothers, William and Chester Zaleski and a daughter in law, Kathleen Zaleski.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Founder and Member of FOPA Lodge #38, member of BPOE Lodge #28, Colonel in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, served 50 years with the Wheeling Traffic Commission, former member of the Wheeling Zoning Commission and former member of the Knights of Columbus-3rd Degree. Andrew began his career as a produce truck owner in South Wheeling in 1932 and then voted the youngest Magistrate in West Virginia. A few years later he started what is now known as National Tire & Battery during the late 40's. In the 50's he was President of First Lincoln Mercury Dealership in Wheeling which he sold in 1959; and was Vice President of United Packing Company. In 1959, he went into the Brokerage Business which he worked for Westheimer, A & E Masten & Legg Mason until his retirement at age 93.
He is survived by his 3 children, a daughter, Janet Louise Click and her husband Jeffrey of Rocky River, OH; 2 sons, Col. (Ret) Andrew A. Zaleski II of San Diego, CA and Dr. Robert J. Zaleski and his wife Tina of Wheeling; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Friday, November 6, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be led at 7:00 pm by Msgr. Kevin Quirk. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Msgr. Eugene Ostrowski as celebrant. Entombment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
