My sincere condolences. A few thoughts for the family:
1) Reading your quotes of what pops said before he passed reminded me of one of my favorites of his. He and I were playing with mom I believe, and I hit an errant tee shot. I then had an excellent approach. He, in typical form, said "I've never seen this course played that way before". To this day, whenever a similar situation presents itself, his dry sense of humor sitting in that cart at Rosewood always comes to mind.
2) I was at the driving range earlier today, after reading your email. I thought of him, and how he has improved my swing and encouraged my love of golf over the years. With his memory as my only swing thought, I hit what could possibly be the best tee shot of my life. Little did I know that the key to playing well was thinking of your father every shot.
Some men and women just come and go in life, without making a sincere impact on anyone. Your father was the exception to the rule. From his dry sense of humor to his caring personality, he always impacted and touched everyone who had any contact with him.
Can you think of a more apt time for him to pass than masters weekend? He always had a sense of timing.
Sunday, I'm planning on treating myself to a birthday round of golf at a nice course up here, with the new driver I got for my birthday. You can bet that, on every tee box, he will be the only thing I think of. What a treat that you got to spend his last hours with him, I'm sure that he appreciated having you by his side as he passed. His sense of humor as he passed caused me to laugh along with the tears, and is forever my lasting memory of your father. Be it with a golf club in my hand or at the Peppermill buffet, he will always be in my mind, as will you.
God bless.
